KATIE Steams In
My latest Live Steam locomotive again comes from Roundhouse. Katie is of typical narrow gauge saddle tank locomotive design. Though not a model of any particular engine, she draws inspiration and features from a number of famous builders like Hunslet, Bagnall and Pecket etc.

LIVE STEAM has finally arrived at FGO

2007 was the 25th anniversary of Roundhouse Living Steam Railways and they produced a deluxe model named 'Silver Lady', whilst we liked this loco we didn't personally like it in the silver grey livery. At the Warley exhibition in December 2007 Roundhouse had a dark green version, and yes we ordered one. Due to the demand for these hand-built locos we would have to wait until August 2008, However on Tuesday 15th July 2008 I received a telephone call from Roundhouse to tell me it was ready.

The Garden Railway

We have had indoor layouts for many years and often talked about a having a garden railway, and so, a couple of years ago we decided that we should stop talking about it, and get stuck in. Not knowing the first thing about garden layouts I started to buy the Garden Rail magazine and Chris bought me ‘Steam In Your Garden, an introduction to garden railways’ I was already buying Railway Modeller on a regular basis but this is aimed more at indoor layouts however it was helpful in finding suppliers.

The Train Room Update
Since the article on the Train Room last year I have done very little on the layout owing to various factors and so I have decided that it has been left far too long.

Gauges and Scales of Model Railways
Gauge is the distance between the inner sides of the two parallel rails that make up the railway track. With the earlier 3 rail systems you use the outer rails.

Scale is the size of the model compared the actual 'real life' locomotive.

I'm Begining To Wonder Should We Have Started'
We decided that we would put an expanse of water at the back of the layout in the Train Room and also include a canal - I am wondering now if it was such a good idea.

Our Model Narrowboat Fleet
Hardy & Hood are models of working narrow boats 72’ in length. They are modelled in both G and OO scales. Hardy is a ‘Butty boat’ and Hood a motorboat. A Butty Boat was built either as a horse boat, which was subsequently towed (by a motorboat), or a boat built to be towed by a motorboat. Note the difference in style of the tillers.

With the exception of ‘Holiday Cruiser’ these boats were made for us by AM Models.
