A Trio of Live Steam

This is our collection of Roundhouse Live Steam Locomotives. Models are hand built to order so there is a good selection of colours to choose from for your model.  Hence our Silver Lady being Brunswick Green.  All locos have insulated wheels fitted as extras.

A  live steam  engine is one actually driven by steam that has been produced by heating water until it boils  just like the real thing. On ROUNDHOUSE models This is 40 psi (pounds per square inch) which is about 2.7 bar.  When the steam pressure reaches this level the safety valve opens and allows excess steam to 'blow off' to atmosphere. Both the operator and any spectators must be aware the engine is very hot when being operated and emits very hot steam both through the chimney and the safety valve.  This is quite different to an engine that has the outward appearance of a steam loco but has an electric or clockwork motor driving the wheels.

THE SILVER LADY

2007 was the 25th anniversary of Roundhouse Living Steam Railways and they produced a deluxe model named 'Silver Lady', whilst we liked this loco we didn't personally like it in the silver grey livery.

As you can see my loco is Dark Brunswick Green, and so we haven't attached the name plate. Well you can't t have a Green Silver Lady, can you?

Silver Lady Technical Specification

2007 is the 25th Anniversary year of Roundhouse and to mark this occasion, we offer ‘Silver Lady’, a deluxe version of the venerable Lady Anne locomotive which has been in production since our first year. This new design includes a host of features and extra detailing including sprung chassis, water top up system, simulated cylinder drain cocks and much more.

The engine styling is still recognisable as ‘Lady Anne’, but with many subtle differences that make it something special. Check out the extra rivet detail, twin slide bar cylinders with dummy combination levers, glazed spectacles, copper capped chimney, ornate polished brass steam dome, opening smoke box door and a whole host of other detailing items.

The model is fitted with special commemorative etched nickel silver works plates and a pair of matching SILVER LADY name plates are supplied loose in case you prefer to name her yourself.

I have purchased from Roundhouse an upgrade kit to convert it from manual to radio control but I have not done it yet.

KATIE

I decided to buy another loco from Roundhouse and managed to narrow it down to two locos. I rang Roundhouse and they had one of my choices in stock, this was Katie and so I bought it.

Katie is fitted with digital control and of typical narrow gauge saddle tank locomotive design. Though not a model of any particular engine, she draws inspiration and features from a number of famous builders like Hunslet, Bagnall and Pecket
